Wakehurst were aiming to reach their first cup final under the new management team but came up just short at the Riada Stadium.

Both teams were missing quite a number of first team regulars and in a game that was extremely nip and tuck between the two league hopefuls, both teams cancelled each other out throughout.

This game started out to be a cagey affair with both teams not taking too many risks but good high pressing from Mark Cochrane and George Fleck saw the latter get on the ball and drive past two defenders to slot the ball neatly in the corner to give the Strollers the lead on the 17th minute.

The first half was very even with both teams

This cup game started at a frantic pace and it only took Zach Barr ten minutes to open the scoring from a defence splitting through ball from David McLaughlin.

Wakehurst then missed a lot of good chances which ultimately would end up costing them as Ballyclare scored twice just before half time which was called for on 42 minutes with the Strollers' goalkeeper Dean Adams being taken to casualty after a nasty head collision with the post.

Wakehurst suffered their first league defeat of the season in a game which until the start of the second half, they weren't even competing in.

Ballynure’s ex-Nigerian international striker Kevin Amuneke reacted quickest on the ninth minute when he hit a left footed strike from the edge of the box which took a deflection and give Andy Findlay no chance.

Wakehurst started at a high tempo and seemed to be controlling the game in all areas of the pitch and their pressure paid off in the 17th minute when a Michael Clarke throw in was flicked on by Jamie Stevenson, which landed at the feet of captain Matthew Logan who made no mistake in hammering the ball past the 'keeper from 15 yards.

Wakehurst went into this game looking to extend their unbeaten run to 13 games but things started out poorly with the visitors getting caught cold with a long throw and Peter Duffin finished to open the scoring after just three minutes.

It took ’Hurst until the 21st minute to settle after the early setback and they started to ask questions of the Tobermore defence when

Strollers returned to league action this week and didn't start the game the way they would have liked as they conceded on the seventh minute from a poorly defended corner, with their striker heading in at the back post.

They drew level five minutes later when John Alexander collected the ball on the left, cut in and bent a w
