Remo (A)

Sat 24th Sep - 2:00pm
The Strollers visited Newtownabbey looking to add another three points to their tally but lost out by the odd goal to a stubborn Remo at Three Mile Water.
Both teams had opportunities in the opening period with Remo hitting the post and Fox forcing Dean Adams in to a good save when sent through one on one. The hosts were once again very dangerous from set pieces and former Cliftonville centre half Jason Bannon had a couple of opportunities but headed narrowly over the bar.
Quigley saw a good free kick go narrowly over for the visitors while Jamie Speirs and Jason Connolly had shots from distance saved before good play from John Alexander on the left allowed him to get free in the box before firing across goal but neither Quigley or Tom Campbell could get a foot to the ball.
Half Time: Remo 0-0 Wakehurst Strollers
The second period continued in the same vein with good battles all over the pitch in difficult conditions and chances came and went for both sides with Bannon’s header being deflected over the bar by Roy Colville before he was in action at the other end, tackling well in the box at the feet of Quigley who had been sent through following a good ball from Connolly.
Quigley then forced an incredible save from the Remo goalkeeper when his powerful and accurate free kick seemed to be destined for the top corner but out of no where, the keeper got a good hand to push it over the bar for a corner.
With three minutes to go, the game looked to be ending in stalemate but drama ensued when Quigley was brought down in the penalty area but Paul Gilchrist’s spot kick was saved and the ball was sent down the other end for their front man to round Dean Adams and slot in to the empty net to take all three points.
Next up for the Strollers is a home tie with Santos FC in the first round of the County Antrim Junior Shield.
