Newtowne (A)

1st Team
McReynolds Cup
Sat 24th Sep - 2:00pm
Wakehurst went into this game looking to stretch their unbeaten run to seven games and 'Hurst started at a frantic pace, not giving last year's champions time to settle and were causing all sorts of problems to the Newtowne back line.
The midfield of Bamber, Laughlin, Price and Weir were dominating their counterparts and were forcing them to play long because of the compactness in the middle.
On the 21st minute, a ball was played out the right to Zach Barr who hit a 40 yard cross into the path of striker Nixon who did well to beat his man and slot it past the onrushing keeper for his sixth goal in seven games.
On the 26th minute, a McCartney corner wasn't dealt with by the keeper and up popped Andy Laughlin for his 4th goal of the season to make it 2-0.
Newtowne were awarded a penalty on the 29th minute which was superbly saved by 'Hurst keeper Andy Findlay for his third penalty save this season and second against the hosts.
There was a delay in play for a Newtowne player with a suspected broken ankle while an ambulance arrived and the game resumed but no more goals were scored in the half.
The second period had more of the same with Wakehurst constantly probing and prodding but the game ended 2-0 to set up an away tie with Desertmartin in the Quarter Finals.
Manager Cliffy Adams said, "this was the type of performance we have been pushing the lads for. We have only seemed to be getting a 45 min performance in most games up until to now but today was superb from start to finish - from 1 to 15 - every single player gave us everything.

Special mention to goalkeeper Andy Findlay who has been a rock at the back all season along with the defence only having conceded six goals in seven games, so full credit to them."
Next sat were away to Larne Tech OB in the Second Round of the Irish cup.
