Wakehurst went in to this game on the back of two straight victories but were without top scorer Stewart Nixon and regular left back Kurtis McCartney but a big plus was captain Ryan Bamber playing his first minutes since November.
After a couple of early chances, the deadlock was broken when Lee McClelland slid home following great work on the left from Nicky Black.
‘Hurst continued to attack and got their reward 12 minutes later when McClelland slipped through Zach Barr to beat the offside trap and cooly slot home in to the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
Sky Blues pulled a goal back seven minutes before the interval when a snapshot cannoned off the bar and was headed back across goal for 2-1.
Half Time: Wakehurst 2-1 Magherafelt Sky Blues
Wakehurst came out looking to add to their advantage and made it 3-1 when Davy McLaughlin threaded through Barr and the big striker fired in to the top corner from 25 yards to bag his second of the day.
The visitors pulled another back following a defensive mix up in the ‘Hurst penalty area before Conor Ross went on a mazy run from just inside the Magherafelt half, drove down the right and in to the box and finished beyond the ‘keeper at his near post with his left foot.
‘Hurst tried to add some more gloss to the score with Barr hitting the post and then having a terrific volley disallowed which would have earned him his hat trick while Laughlin and McClelland also had chances.
Another vital three points ahead of the season run in with table toppers Coagh United visiting Mill Meadow next Saturday.
