Limavady United (A)

1st Team
Intermediate Cup
Sat 10th Dec - 1:30pm
Wakehurst went into this game against their higher league opponents as under dogs and the work rate of each and every player in a black and white shirt was top drawer.
In the first 45 minutes, it was all Wakehurst as they they were outworking and out playing Limavady all over the park and on the 23rd minute, Nixon found himself with just the keeper to beat and hammered it into the roof of the net giving him no chance.
Barr and Nixon were combining well and the Limavady defence were struggling to deal with them with Dean Adams in the Wakehurst goal who was making his senior debut found himself to be a virtual spectator in the first half due to the good work of the players in front of him.
As expected, Limavady came out like a steam train in the second half as and for the first 18 minutes in the second half, Wakehurst were finding it hard to get out of their own half but credit to the back line and Adams in goals who was quick off his line to catch any early balls put into the box.
On the 69th minute after an initial block shot by the defender, the ball ricochet out to Bennie McFadden who hit an unstoppable strike into the top left corner giving Adams no chance.
The game now was flowing from end to end with Barr, Price and Nixon all unfortunate when well placed with the keeper to beat.
On the 84th minute Limavady broke free down the right and Adams made a superb save from Robbie Hume to keep the scores level but on the 91st minute with the game looking like it was going to extra time with Wakehurst committed forward for a throw in, a long ball forward by the Limavady defender result in the speedy striker Hume getting in a leg race with the 'Hurst defender which he won and ended the tie with a good finish to break the hearts of Wakehurst who most definitely didn't deserve to be on the end of that result.
Manager Cliffy Adams praised the application of his players because of the passing of goalkeeper Andy Findlay’s brother on Saturday morning and everyone's thoughts and prayers were with their goalkeeper and they could've been forgiven for not being fully focused but that was not the case as the team gave everything on the day in support of the goalkeeper.
He continued, “A top top performance. These type of games give us the opportunity to see how close or far away we are with the league above and this is our third game against higher opposition and all the games has been nip and tuck so it's positive with a rebuilt team this season.”
