Wakehurst earned a place in the final of the O’Gorman Cup with a hard fought victory over a tough Dunloy side.

Dunloy started the better and may feel aggrieved to have not be given a penalty after 20 minutes when Declan McGarry went down in the box but the referee deemed him to have made the most of it and waved play on.

Shane Dooey then had an opportunity to break the deadlock when through one on one but Wakehurst goalkeeper Andy Findlay pulled off a terrific save with his feet to ensure the score remained goalless.

The hosts started to get in to the game and had some good opportunities with Nixon curling just wide from 20 yards, and Lee McClelland, Zach Barr and Andy Laughlin forcing saves from  Sean Doherty in the Dunloy goal.

The breakthrough came for the visitors just after the half hour mark when the ball wasn’t cleared and the prolific JJ McFerran slotted past Findlay from a few yards out.

‘Hurst didn’t shy away from recovering and were back on level terms just two minutes later when Doherty saved from Laughlin, O’Boyle blocked a rebound but the ball was finally slammed home by Lee McClelland from close range to send the sides in level at the break.

Half Time: Wakehurst 1-1 Dunloy

The second half started off quite scrappy and both sides had opportunities to score with the best coming for Dunlop’s Jamie McFerran but more heroics from Findlay somehow saw him save from point blank range to keep the sides level.

With the game seemingly heading to extra time, Andy Laughlin picked the ball up in midfield and burst in to the box, evading a couple of challenges before having an initial shot blocked but the ball fell kindly to him and he prodded home a second injury time winner in as many weeks.

With the final whistle edging closer, Dunloy sent everyone forward and following a defensive mix up, Zach Barr stole the ball just inside the Dunloy have and chipped Doherty from out wide but his spectacular effort drifted inches wide of the post.

The result earns Wakehurst a place in the final against Glebe Rangers with time and date TBC.

Next up, we are back in league action against Magherafelt Sky Blues at Mill Meadow.
