The Strollers made the short trip to ‘Little Ibrox’ to face Clough Rangers Athletic as they looked to bounce back from last week’s last minute defeat to Ballynure.

The game started with Clough on the ascendancy but Jamie Speirs’ 7th minute strike found the bottom corner via a deflection following good work from Paul Gilchrist and Stephen Cochrane.

Both teams had chances throughout the opening period with Tom Campbell, Peter Adams, Alexander, Cochrane and Gilchrist all testing the home ‘keeper while Ross Steele and Matty Logan came close for the home side.

The game had all the hallmarks of a local derby with some heavy challenges and confrontations but referee Russell Wilson dealt with the situations calmly without reaching for any cards.

Half Time: Clough Rangers Athletic 0-1 Wakehurst Strollers

The second half started in a bit of a lull before Clough started to turn the screw as they searched for the equaliser which came just past the hour mark, a ball in to the box made it’s way to former ‘Hurst striker Steele at the back post and he tapped home to make it one apiece.

The scoreline remained level for just nine minutes as good play from Alexander on the right hand side allowed him to get in to the box and fire across goal for captain for the day Peter Adams to finish and regain the Strollers’ advantage.

Substitute Stephen Quigley made it 3-1 within 40 seconds of being on the pitch as he skillfully turned both the goalkeeper and Ryan Magill inside the penalty area and finished clinically in to the corner of the net on 84 minutes.

Matthew Logan then found himself one on one with the ‘keeper two minutes later and he calmly finished for number four before Quigley could’ve added further gloss to the scoreline but his penalty was saved by the legs of the Clough goalkeeper.

The game was Peter Adams’ final one for the club as he moves on to Galgorm Blues in the BSML to go in line with his studies and we wish him all the best with everything.

We would also like to thank Clough for their after match hospitality in the Clough Rangers club.

Next up for the Strollers is a trip to Newtownabbey to face Remo at Threemilewater.
