The Strollers remain unbeaten in 2017 after a convincing win in their local derby.

It was a tight opening 20 minutes with the wind and sun causing the Strollers defence a bit of bother but nonetheless they remained solid and Ricky Quigley in goals dealt with, what little he had to do, very well.

The scoring was opened on the 31st minute after good play from Jonny Gordon saw him play a long ball to Stephen Cochrane who held it up well, laid it off to David Johnston who played a fantastic cross field ball on the half volley to find Peter Adams free on the edge of the box, who drove into the box and smashed the ball past the keeper and into the roof of the net.

Half Time: Strollers 1-0 Clough

The second half started similar to the first with not a lot between the teams but Wakehurst quickly started to take control of the game and put the Clough defence under a lot of pressure.

The hosts doubled their lead with strikers Cochrane and Peter Adams linking up well and seeing Cochrane chip the ball over the visitors' defence for Adams to run onto and finish into the bottom corner on the volley.

Clough then pulled a goal back with a 20 yard screamer from their striker who, while turning, struck a half volley into the top corner.

Clough continued to throw men forward but to no avail as a sloppy square pass by their centre back was picked off by Peter Adams to have a clear run at goal from just inside the opposition half and calmly finished into the bottom corner to complete his hat trick.

The game was ended as a contest on the 81st minute when Cochrane quickly closed down and dispossessed the opposition just outside their box, then found David Johnston on the left who's first time pass again found Peter Adams in space to drive into the box and slot the ball under the keeper and claim his 4th of the game.

Further gloss could have been added to the scoreline as Peter Adams cushioned down a header to U17 player Aaron Campbell on the edge of the box who's first time volley rattled the crossbar on the 89th minute.

Manager Peter Thompson said 'it was a great performance from every single player today and hopefully we can keep this run of form going'.

Next up for the Strollers is an away trip to Castle Star in Carrick next Saturday.
