Wakehurst came into this game on a fine run of five games unbeaten and knew if they were to extend that, it was going to be tough against a Chimney Corner team looking for their first win of the season.

The game started with Chimney playing with ten men behind the ball and Wakehurst knocking it about trying to find a way through but Corner were keeping it tight, limiting 'Hurst to very little in the way of opportunities.

On the 21st minute, Kurtis McCartney played an excellent ball to the back post from deep and up popped Nixon to head home giving the Jonny Reid in the visiting goal no chance.

Zach Barr was unlucky to see his effort sail over the bar from close range on 33rd minute and the game continued with Wakehurst having the lions' share of possession but failing to add to their tally.

The visitors came out in the second half and pushed another man up top and for the first ten minutes were causing all sorts of hassle to the 'Hurst backline and it paid off on the 59th minute when Darren Burgoyne was left in space after good work by David Hanna playing him in on goal and he made no mistake to bring the scores back level.

On the 71st min, Zach Barr had his shot well saved by Reid but Nixon was on hand to score the rebound to put the hosts back in front.

On the 75th min Wakehurst took a quick freekick and played Aaran Weir down the right wing who took on his man and his superb shot gave the 'keeper no chance to put the home team two goals to the good.

The returning Conor Ross at centre half made a superb last ditch tackle on the edge of the box just as the Corner striker was about to shoot before substitute David Johnston played a superb ball to the forward running Nixon who was denied by a last ditch tackle when he was about to pull the trigger.

A below par performance for Wakehurst but the one thing about this team is they keep going even when things arent going their way and extended their unbeaten run and must be commended on that.

This team is still in their infancy with an average age of 22 years old and a complete rebuild in the summer means that their is still so much more to come and we are delighted with the lads' start.

Next week the team take a break from league action to play last years league champions in the McReynolds Cup away to Newtowne with a 2pm kick off at Scraggy Road, Limavady.
