The Strollers made the short trip to Antrim Forum to face Ballynure Old Boys ‘B’ who had won their season opener 4-0 against Carnmoney and were boosted by some of their first team players joining the panel - including former FC Porto and Nigerian international striker Kevin Amuneke.

Prior to the match, a minute’s silence was immaculately observed by both sides for Mossley manager Gary ‘Soupy’ Campbell.

Strollers were unfortunate to lose experienced defender Owen Gregg in the warm up and then left back Aaron Gault 15 minutes in - an injury we know has left him with two broken bones in his wrist.

Ballynure opened the scoring on 22 minutes when a free kick from the left was met by a Michael Duff header at the back post but the lead only lasted nine minutes as John Alexander beat three players before cooly slotting past Jonah Nicholl in the home goal.

Ryan Stewart regained the lead for the hosts when he drilled home from just inside the box with a well placed finish six minutes before the break.

Half Time: Ballynure OB ‘B’ 2-1 Wakehurst Strollers

Both teams had chances to add to their tallies in the second period but central defender Sam Burns equalised for the visitors as he finished well at the near post from a Jamie Speirs free kick to notch his first goal since arriving from UUC.

Both sets of players really went for the three points and the game was an entertaining one but Amuneke grabbed a 91st minute winner for ‘Nure when he latched on to a throw in and finished well when one on one with Dean Adams.

Next up for the Strollers is a trip to neighbours Clough Rangers Athletic next week.
